Experience SPX

What’s the culture like at SPX? What are the opportunities for personal and professional growth? Will you have opportunities to work on important projects or to travel or move to other geographic regions?

Experience what it’s like to be part of SPX from the words of some of the people that work with us.

Erica | Global Industry Manager, SPX Cooling Technologies | Overland Park, Kansas

Personal Ownership of Your Career

Erica got her foot in the door at SPX in a contractual capacity working with commercial software.  While it wasn’t in her degree field of advertising, the position did enable her to learn a great deal about the global nature of SPX and to get tremendous exposure internally.

Erica knew she ultimately wanted to be in a sales and marketing capacity, and spent time with various managers and mentors to figure out how to move in that direction.  Her patience and persistence paid off.

“My managers listened and took into consideration where I wanted my career to go,” Erica says. “Now my current role is aligned more closely with my background. But my initial roles really gave me the experience and perspective to better succeed in what I’m doing now.”

The culture at SPX is one that encourages personal ownership and accountability, not only for the products and services provided, but also for our employees’ development.

“I think I’ll keep progressing as long as I keep working hard and being successful in my roles.”

Terra | Manager, Health & Welfare Plan Administration, SPX Corporate | Charlotte, North Carolina

A Culture That Promotes Growth

“If I had to describe the SPX culture in a few words, I would say that it's focused on innovation and continuous improvement to help our customers excel,” Terra says. "You need to think creatively at SPX, offer ideas, take initiative and deliver.”

Terra has had many opportunities to make a significant impact during her tenure with SPX.  While she started in an entry-level benefits coordinator role, much of her professional growth has been a direct result of her being flexible to meet evolving needs of the business.

Today, Terra is a manager on the SPX Benefits team, where she oversees the relationships with health plan vendors and wellness communications to SPX employees.

“If you are self driven, there are challenging and rewarding career opportunities available,” Terra says. “The SPX culture is about coming up with solutions and ideas to help our customers improve. The company welcomes different perspectives to help us generate unique ideas and solutions.”

Scott | Manager, Learning and Development, SPX Corporate | Charlotte, North Carolina

What You Do Matters

Prior to joining SPX, Scott was conducting a job search to take his career to the next level.  He recognized that the type of company he wanted to work for was equally as important as the type of position.  He wanted to find a company that was financially stable, but that was also doing good things for the world. SPX was just what he wanted.

“One of the things I noticed right away was that people that work for SPX really care about the company,” he said. “Employees want to do everything they can to ensure the company does well.”

As a manager on the SPX leadership development team, Scott has a unique vantage point that allows him to get the pulse of the employee population across the globe.  While he works out of the corporate headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina, he also develops and implements programs that touch employees on all continents.

“One thing I’ve found at SPX is that the company as a whole embraces diversity,” Scott said.  “But it’s not just about gender or race.  It focuses on the different ideas and work styles that people can bring to the table.”

Kai | Attorney, Labor and Employment, SPX Corporate | Munich, Germany

Global Thinking, Local Impact

After a successful career as an attorney at a prestigious law firm, Kai decided it was time for a change.  With a desire to leverage his global background, he set out to find an opportunity with an organization where he could have significant impact.

As part of the corporate legal team, Kai plays an intricate role in providing legal expertise tailored to the local laws of many of the countries in which SPX operates.  And Kai thrives in this environment.

“I’m no longer the external advisor that doesn’t have the insight and perspective you get from being part of an organization,” Kai said. “As a result, when I see a problem, I care about it. It’s my company so it’s my problem, and I want to do whatever it takes to fix it.”

“My experience at SPX has been that it’s normal that people share their opinions,” he says, “People here care about their work, and are not afraid to share their thoughts and offer suggestions.”

John | Commodity Manager, Weil-McLain | Michigan City, Indiana

Staying Connected Globally

As a tri-lingual employee, John loves the ability to leverage his language and cultural awareness skills in SPX’s work environment.

“I’m able to talk to manufacturers in various countries and understand their culture and needs,” he says.  “SPX continues to expand its visibility in different countries now; it’s rewarding to be among the people who can help continue this evolution.”

John also uses the SPX Intranet to stay connected to his global colleagues.  He checks it out a few times per week to stay abreast of any developments, as well as to see what others throughout the organization are doing to innovate.  He is particularly impressed with the fact that the Intranet is published in 10 languages.

“For me, it’s like ‘Wow’,” John says.  ”This is a company that is really working hard to have a world vision and look and act like a global organization.”
